In Kyoto, group members have the opportunity to contribute to the restoration and preservation of an important historical landmark - the Samurai House. This site represents Japan’s Samurai heritage and values of honour and discipline, yet it currently lacks official support for its upkeep. At the end of the tour, guests are encouraged to donate any remaining yen or small change to the Samurai House Fund, directly aiding its maintenance. By supporting this initiative, group members help protect a crucial part of Kyoto’s history, ensuring that future generations can continue to learn from and appreciate the legacy of the Samurai.
Origami & Noodle Making
In the tranquil setting of Nagano, group members can immerse themselves in two of Japan’s cherished traditions: origami and soba noodle-making. Led by passionate local artisans, these hands-on workshops provide insight into the skill and patience required for each craft. Participants will learn the intricate folding techniques of origami, transforming simple paper into elegant designs, while also mastering the art of making fresh soba noodles from buckwheat flour. More than just a learning experience, these workshops support local family businesses, helping to preserve traditional skills and ensuring that these cultural practices continue to thrive for future generations.
